Edge of tomorrow 2 slice of yesteryear8/29/2023 The explosion's confused the shit out of it (alphas didn't die, what the hell happened?) and it's rapidly dying. Now this doesn't kill the omega immediately. Now this is all well and fine, but in the Paris assault on the omega, no one killed an alpha, so the omega doesn't initiate a reset. Obviously the omega does notice something's off with this one death-prone alpha, hence the ambush at the dam to fix him. To the omega, Tom is just another alpha, so reset reset reset to the last checkpoint we go, and all the while Tom's been levelling up his skills. I think of it as an in-game notification that one of your major units got killed - dammit, no more bonus objective, let's reload from the last checkpoint. Tom Cruise gets reset because he's been integrated into the Mimic consciousness, and he's dying and setting off the omega's reset trigger. Like how you save a game when you're in a good spot. Instead, it sets a checkpoint at times when things seem pretty swell. I prefer this over the "period of sleep" theory, only because I think the omega doesn't sleep. Note that each transfer back in time seems to be at a set "checkpoint". In the ideal omega battle plan: (A) if battle is going swell, no reset (B) if battle is going badly (if alphas are dying, shit must be hitting the fan), omega sends its consciousness and memories back in time to try a different plan, back to (A). I like the idea that the omega usually sends back its consciousness only when an alpha dies. So that's my theory! Please, poke holes in it or show me a better theory! That's part of the fun of this movie, trying to explain the ending! So by that logic, when Cruise kills the Omega and steals its Time Loop Ability, he also takes away it's ability to reset. I think that by stealing the Alpha's power, he stole it's ability to reset along with him, making him permanently dead. But what do we never see again? The Alpha on the beach. Cruise resets and goes through the beach assault over and over again. The first time Cruise gets on the beach he kills an Alpha and steals its Time Loop power. I think I may have an explanation though. The tricky part comes when you try and figure out why the Omega was still dead when Cruise reset. The second time he got the power, it was before the beach assault even started, hence him getting reset back to the helicopter. The first time he got the power was on the beach. He reset 24 hours just like he had been the entire movie. Earlier this year in May 2021, Blunt tells Howard Stern in an interview that she believes the movie is “too expensive”, she goes on to say that due to the position of the industry (as a result of the pandemic) that people will need to figure out what the next step is “for the kinds of film’s people want to make”.People seem confused by Tom Cruise being reset all the way back to the helicopter and I'm not sure why. In October 2019, it was reported that the script had been completed and that the only thing everyone was waiting on, were the leading actors to sign on. However, though director Doug Liman and writer Jez Butterworth had been working on a script for the film, leading actress Blunt had mentioned that it would be too much for the actors to take on and that, though they would love to reprise their roles, herself and Cruise were busy with Mary Popping and Mission Impossible respectively. No sequel has been confirmed at the time of writing and HITC believes that Edge of Tomorrow 2 will not be in the works anytime in the near future.Įvery subsequent year, since the release of the first film (2014), had the production crew working toward a sequel.View Tweet Edge of Tomorrow 2: Here’s what we know so far…
